Each year we all have dates we need to remember. Although I am a criminal defense attorney and handle DUI cases, drug cases, violation of probation cases and yes even battery cases I have a list of dates dealing with real estate law. As an attorney licensed by the Florida Bar I can practice any area I choose. However, I love being in court and defending people accused of crimes. Here is my list of dates for you to jot down and remember. If you, a friend or family member need ANY legal advice call me and at least let me listen to your issue and if I cannot resolve it I will at least know the best attorney for you to hire.
1/1/16: Tax assessment date for real property. The value of your propert on this date is used to calculate your property tax. Also, you must own and reside in your home by this date in order to qualify for the 2016 Homestead Exemption.
1/4/16: First day to apply for property tax exemptions.
3/1/16: Deadline to apply for property tax exemptions.
3/31/16: Deadline to pay 2015 property taxes.
8/1/16: Proposed property tax notices (TRIM) are sent to property owners.
9/1/16: Property tax bills are sent to property owners.
November 2016: Month you can receive the biggest discount if you pay your property taxes.
12/31/16: Deadline to close and move into property in order to qualify for 2017 Homestead property tax exemption.
Have a great 2016!
